Phase I is primarily focused on bone development. Catching jaw problems early and fixing them while they are relatively easy to deal with is the key principal behind Phase I treatment. This treatment can prevent surgical procedures on the jaw as well as tooth extractions for overcrowding. It also makes comprehensive treatment faster than it would have been without Phase I treatment. The final positioning of the teeth, however, are determined by comprehensive treatment. This means that after Phase I the teeth are not in their final positions and will need to be guided there with comprehensive treatment.
